About Us

Welcome to Zion Baptist Church. We are so happy that you found our website and we look forward to meeting you. We know that visiting a new church can sometimes feel uncomfortable. So, that your time with us can be as relaxed as possible, we have provided information here that may answer many of your questions. Whether you’re just visiting and looking for a place to worship or you’re looking for a church home, or you’ve never attended church and are looking for a place to experience God’s love, we know you’ll find what you’re looking for at Zion. Zion is a place where everybody is somebody and Christ is Lord!

Zion is a growing church family with people from all walks of life, united by the Bible and our love for God. During the welcome portion of the service, please stand so that one of our greeters will know you’re new so they can get you an information packet. We have classes and groups for all ages so you’re sure to find your niche. If you leave your contact information with one of the ushers or simply drop it in the offering basket, you will receive a letter thanking you for your visit and offering more information.

What to Expect at a Sunday Worship Service

We recognize that it can be a bit intimidating coming into a church service for the very first time, so we thought it might be helpful to give you a bit of a “heads up” on what to expect. When you enter the building, you will be greeted and handed an information bulletin. An usher will help you find a seat in the sanctuary or, for classes in the Education Building, will help you find the right location.

Our first worship service begins at 7:30am. From 9:20am to 10:20am Bible classes for all ages are available. Our regular worship service begins at 10:30am. Childcare is offered the second, third and fifth Sundays and an engaging Christian Education Program is offered each Sunday for the children. Make sure to check out the Youth Ministry section of our website for specific classes and activities.

During the announcement segment of the service, you can see the current and upcoming church-wide events. It is our hope that you will find an event that you would like to attend or an activity that will encourage you to stay here at Zion for a while. Wherever your faith journey is taking you right now, you will most assuredly find other people with us who are at a similar stage in life. Look around our website and join us some Sunday and introduce yourself. We’d love to meet you in person.

As our worship begins, we invite you to participate in our Praise and Worship portion of the service. We treasure this method of worship music because it encourages everyone to participate in the singing. The music is both traditional and contemporary in style. We do not expect you to know the words of all the songs, so we project the words on the screen at the front and back of the sanctuary. We also have song books. If you don’t know the tune just listen, review the words on the screen and join in when you are ready. We usually begin our worship with songs of praise to God.

We partake of The Lord’s Supper every First Sunday. This memorial supper was inaugurated by Jesus on the night of his betrayal (Matthew 26:26-28). It is observed by Christians in memory of the Lord’s death (1 Corinthians 11:24, 25). The unleavened bread and fruit of the vine symbolize the body and blood of Jesus (1 Corinthians 10:16). If you are a believer in Jesus, you are welcome to commune with us.

We also take a collection each Sunday to give the members an opportunity to support the many works of the Zion Baptist Church and all our mission efforts. If you are a visitor, there is no expectation for you to give. You can also give online at https://onrealm.org/zbcmarietta/-/give/now.

Every Sunday we have a message from a Bible passage, most often given by our Pastor or a pulpit minister. The intent of the message is to draw us closer to understanding and fellowshipping with God and to challenge us to live lives of faithful service in His kingdom. The lesson usually ends with an invitation for those who want to be baptized, place membership with the Zion, or ask for the prayers of the church.

Some people have asked: What do I wear? At Zion, you will be comfortable dressing casual to Sunday Dress-up. We provide a very comfortable setting that focuses on people and not appearance.

We think you will find the Zion Baptist Church to be a friendly and helpful group of people. You will not be embarrassed or singled out for any emphasis. We are excited to have you in our presence, to serve and worship with you and hope that you will desire to get involved and come back. We are grateful that you’ve taken the time to visit our website and learn more about us. If you would like to speak to someone about visiting the church, please call our church office. We would welcome the opportunity to get to know you.
